New clients

New to NHVH? Here’s what to expect.

Welcome! Whether you’re switching clinics or bringing home your first pet, a first visit with us is unhurried, friendly, and clear about what happens next.

Your first visit

Three simple steps.

01
Check in and settle

Arrive a few minutes early to complete a short intake form. Dogs on a leash and cats in a carrier — our waiting area is kept calm on purpose.

02
History and a nose-to-tail exam

We take a full history, examine your pet from nose to tail, and talk through anything you’ve noticed at home.

03
A plan — with costs — before we act

If we recommend tests or treatment, we explain the options and what each one costs. Then you decide.

What to bring
We’ll take care of the rest.

New clients are usually seen the same week. A first visit is unhurried: a full history, a nose-to-tail exam, and a plain-language explanation of anything we recommend — with costs before we act.

  • Any previous medical records, if switching from another clinic
  • A list of current medications or concerns
  • We’ll take care of the rest

Good to know

Common questions

The things new clients ask us most — so you don’t have to call to find out.

Do I need to transfer my pet’s records?

If you can, bring or forward any previous records and vaccination history. If you can’t, don’t worry — we’ll request them from your previous clinic.

How long does a first visit take?

First visits are unhurried. Plan for a little longer than a routine check-up so we have time to get to know you and your pet.

What if my pet needs care after hours?

We’re closed evenings and weekends. If your pet needs help right now, go directly to a 24-hour emergency hospital — see our emergency page for what to do. Emergency & after-hours →

Which animals do you see?

We’re a small-animal practice caring for dogs and cats.

How do I pay, and is financing available?

Payment is due at the time of the visit. When a treatment plan needs room to breathe, financing is available through Affirm.
